All or Nothing Thinking

If you are a perfectionist who procrastinates, then you are likely an All or Nothing Thinker. And what does this mean? See if you answer yes to the following questions:

Do you get easily discouraged if,

*You set your goals and don’t accomplish everything you set out to do,
*You make your plans and don’t follow them exactly as you intended,
*You don’t do something as perfectly as you had hoped.

An all or nothing thinker doesn’t allow for flexibility, spontaneity or changes in circumstances. As long as the goal isn’t finished, or hasn’t been done perfectly as planned, it’s as if nothing has been accomplished.

So how to break this pattern? Start by setting small, realistic goals, and allow for adjustments along the way. Give yourself credit for small accomplishments that lead you towards your goal. And remember that perfectionism is an illusion. It’s a concept created by your mind that can debilitate you instead of help you realize your potential.
